| The protagonist of The Associate, the latest legal thriller from the master of the genre John Grisham, is Kyle McAvoy, an idealistic one-time Eagle Scout who grew up in his father’s law office in a Pennsylvanian small town, a former basketball star and the editor of the Yale Law Journal. Kyle is forced to ply to Bennie’s wishes if he does not want to end up in prison, or worse, dead. While Kyle is intelligent, sly and courageous, much like Mitch McDeere, the main character in Grisham’s breakthrough novel, The Firm (1991), he is also too naïve to realize how astute and powerful the forces he’s pitted against are. Highly readable, filled with suspenseful sub-plots and masterfully drawn characters, The Associate is a fast-paced, absorbing and utterly impossible to put down read for Grisham fans and other amateurs of the legal thriller genre. |
